RAPID CITY SOUTH DAKOTA

BLACK HILLS VETERANS CEMETERY You may find it difficult to believe but a cemetery was never on our list of places we 'must see' in our travels.  However, we passed Black Hills Veterans Cemetery on our way to Rapid City and knew in an instant that we would return. It's hard to describe the feelings you experience when you visit a military cemetery. There is a mix of humbleness, pride, gratefulness, sadness, and awe. We're pretty sure it was the slight breeze that was causing our eyes to water. STURGIS A trip through South Dakota isn't complete without stopping by the world famous Sturgis.  After driving through the little town it's…

SUMMER 2017

SO MANY THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR We are learning over time that Flamingo's and RV's just seem to 'go together'.  So imagine our elation and surprise when we opened the most thoughtful gift from mom....a string of Flamingo lights - just what we've always wanted.  Understanding that space is very limited, we are so thankful for the forethought and consideration that mom put into our gift.  We can neatly pack our string of lights away safe and sound instead of strapping a big pink Flamingo to the back of our rig. BIKING AROUND BEAUTIFUL LAKE COEUR D' ALENE We are always up for an adventure so when our beautiful…

McCALL IDAHO

WELCOME TO MCCALL McCall is a quaint little resort town that enjoys sports like snowmobiling and skiing at Brundage Mountain in the winter, and water sports on Payette lake in the summer. We were there for the month of June and while the rest of the country was experiencing heat waves we were waking up each morning to 40 degrees due to the 5000 foot altitude. THE SIMPLE LIFE We stayed at McCall RV resort on the edge of town and enjoyed exploring the area.  Our first weekend in town we caught up with our friends Tony and Jen for some good Mexican food at Pueblo Lindo.  Tony and Jen…

TOP 10 RV PARK OBSERVATIONS

The number of people that have strollers for their pets is disturbing. You don't have to worry about how you look at the pool because this is definitely not a spring break crowd. A lot of people travel with cats and just let them wander around. There are a surprising number of women RV'ing alone. Most everyone we meet assumes we are on vacation because we don't look old enough to be retired and the idea of working full time and traveling the country in an RV is foreign to most people. You can order pizza and have it delivered to your RV. There must be some kind of federal…

OUT AND ABOUT

Sorry we haven't posted for a while, it's going to take some discipline to do this on a regular basis. Some of you have noticed there is now a subscribe option at the bottom of the page so you don't have to keep checking to see if there is something new. So subscribe away! On March 18th we took the day off and drove 60 miles east of Redding to Burney Falls. It was a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day and the falls were very impressive. Being early in the year and a Friday there were only a few people there. Here is my favorite picture of the falls. I…

LET THE MUSIC PLAY

So today while Trish is skiing in Colorado I installed a new XM receiver and connected it to the Sonos system. We had been using Pandora with Sonos but a lot of our data is from Verizon and AT&T so we need to save our bandwidth (money) so this seemed like a good option. I just got the receiver activated so now I'm sitting here jamming out to my favorite stations. I'm loving the Sonos system, I have it connected to our media system so it works while watching movies and sounds awesome and the 4k TV looks awesome. I watched Big Hero 6 the other night and was blown…

POP GOES THE BREAKER

This "house" is very well designed and works very well until you start adding stuff. When the AquaHot heating system stopped working I ran to Walmart and got a little heater which kept the bedroom warm but Monday night I had the heater going and put a bag of popcorn in the microwave and,,, "pop". No problem I just reset the breaker, turned off the heater and restarted the microwave. Then the next morning I was working in front of the nice warm fireplace keeping my feet nice and toasty and started the dishwasher (the first time we have ever ran it) and,,, you guessed it "pop". So I reset…

WAKING UP COLD

I had a really long write-up of our fist night away from "home" complaining about a couple issues (like waking up to a cold bedroom and the toilet not flushing) but I realized that we are blessed in that God has been preparing us our whole lives for this adventure. Right now the toilet works perfectly, the motorhome is nice and warm, and we cooked dinner on our brand new untested induction cook top. Although yesterday was hard saying "see you later" to our family, arriving in Kennewick last night and having dinner with some very dear friends ended the day on a positive note.

THE BEGINNING

The details of how this crazy idea started are a little fuzzy but at some point we found ourselves embracing the idea of living like nomads. Minimal possessions, traveling the country, seeing and doing as much as possible (except mowing a lawn and weeding gardens). Our kids are all grown up and moved out and we both have jobs that we can do wherever we have internet. So we sold the house and almost everything we owned and bought a house on wheels.   Getting ready has taken much longer than we expected (and a lot more money) but as of today we are really close to being on the…
